Depending on the hair you purchase will determine its life span. The more money you invest in the quality the longer life span you can expect from the hair with proper maintenance. When purchasing from Glamere you will see that we offer raw and virgin hair. Our raw hair comes from India. The Indian hair has any where from a 2-3 year life span with proper maintenance. Our Virgin hair has a life span of 1-2 years with proper maintenance.

PRODUCTS AND INGREDIENTS TO AVOID:

  • Avoid shampoos and conditioners with alcohols and sulfates, as these ingredients are extremely drying on the hair. Since hair extensions do not receive natural oils from the scalp, they are already dry by nature, and it is best to preserve moisture in the hair as much as possible.

  • This will ensure that the extensions look healthy and luscious, as opposed to dry and dull, reducing knotting, tangling, and matting. You can also use a shampoo and conditioner specifically designed for colored treated hair or for hair extensions.

PRODUCTS TO USE:

  • Choose high-quality hair products, specifically formulated for dry and damaged hair, as they will help keep the hair extensions healthy and nourished. Remember when using sticky hair products like hairspray, hair gel, or hair wax, they will clog up your extensions, leading to buildup. The more products you use, the more you will need to wash your extensions.

  • Most hair extensions have a silicone coating, giving them a beautiful, healthy finish already, try to avoid using product for your first install. If you are trying to achieve healthy bouncing curls, instead of using a holding spray , after forming the curl with a curling iron of your choice pin curl the curls, leave them overnight or even just for an hour to ensure the curls stay in place without the use of hairspray. Unravel your extensions when you are ready to wear them. At the end of the night you can use your fingers to form the pin curl, or use flexi-rods to keep the curl pattern.

HEAT PROTECTANT

  • If you use heat on your hair often such as, straightening iron, curling wand, and a hairdryer you know the affect it can have. Heat takes all the moisture out of hair strands, leaving the hair dry, dull, and damaged. In the same way, since hair extensions are already dry by nature, heat styling can deteriorate the hair faster, unless specially cared for properly.

  • Heat protectant sprays will prolong life of your hair extensions and your natural hair as well. These products coat the hair strands to minimize damage from direct heat. Attempt to purchase a heat protectant that has to detangle, smoothen, and boost shine. Some thermal heat protectants go so far as to help transfer nutrients and vitamins to the hair shaft, making it stronger.

  • When using a heat protectant, spray your hair (if you have leave out) as well as your hair extensions with the product evenly about 4-6 inches away, and wait a minute before applying heat.

HAIR OIL

  • Since hair extensions do not receive natural oils and nutrients from the scalp, they are chronically dry and should be cared for properly. With the right care, your hair extensions will continue looking soft, and shiny throughout their lifetime. Be sure to apply a nourishing hair oil on the ends, especially after heat styling or washing.

HAIR MASK/DEEP CONDITIONER

  • To keep your hair extensions hydrated, nourished, and manageable to style, it is always best to use a deep conditioner after washing them. Deep conditioners or hair masks usually have a thicker consistency than regular conditioners, making them highly effective to moisturize hair strands deeply. Hair masks or deep conditioners should be left on for at least 30 minutes, if not overnight, to see the full effects. When shopping for a hair mask, look for products that are alcohol and sulfate free, as well as contain ingredients that penetrate the cuticle, like coconut oil, olive oil, or avocado oil.

Best oils to use-

  • Coconut oil- will penetrate the hair more deeply than any regular conditioner. Its best to apply coconut oil as a deep condition by slathering your hair in the oil prior to washing it and allowing it to sit overnight! The next day wash the hair as normal.

  • Argan oil- Has beneficial ingredients such as vitamin E, ferulic acid, antioxidants and fatty acids. Argan oil nourishes, moisturizes and smooth-ens the hair, preventing dryness, and frizziness. Argan oil isn't as greasy as some oils it can be used as a finish once your hair is styled.

  • Jojoba oil- Resemembles the oil that our scalp naturally produced. The jojoba oil hydrated the hair adding shine and softness, you can use jojoba as an overnight hair mask as well before washing the hair.
